Meeting 26th Feb 2008

We held our first meeting on Tuesday and got off to a good start with 10 people, all very interested in finding out more information about the wonderful world of wine. We decided that the group would aim to taste and compare different wines and perhaps the same wine from different countries. The purpose of the group is not to become wine experts, but to taste a variety of wines to enable us to make a more informed choice next time we go shopping. We would also take a fairly wide view of the subject perhaps visiting local wineries and also occasionally look at speciality beers and cheeses. We decided on an initial meeting fee of £2 per person, we would meet monthly (next meeting is Tuesday 25th March at Mike's, 14:00 to 16:00 ) The wine we tasted on this occasion were both white wines from Argentina. The first wine was a Tilimiuqui Torrontes (£4.39) which the group gave an average score of 5.7. Most people found it a light dry wine that would make a good apperetif. The second wine was an Argento Chardonnay (£5.99) which also received an average score of 5.7. This wine had a stronger taste and more body and would be more suitable to have with food. Both wines are available from Waitrose.
