Our meeting this week was held at Molly’s and Dave’s who had found two very attractive wines for us to sample. Both wines, a white and a red, scored very highly with the group and showed that despite rising prices, what excellent value can still be be found in the supermarkets.
Both wines were from the Co-op. The first was a Spanish white wine - Vina Albali 2007 Chardonnay-Airen. It is the Co-op’s wine of the month and is currently available at half price £3.75 ( normal retail price is £7.50) General comments were :- a medium dry wine, very pleasant, with lots of flavour. An easy drinking wine that would go with most fish and white meats. The average score from the group was 7.2
The red wine - was a Fairtrade Argentine Shiraz from the Famatina Valley. General comments were:- a very attractive colour of dark ruby red, an aroma of dark fruits, blackberries and plums. A very smooth soft wine. The average score given was 8.1 , the highest score the group has given so far.
As well as the high scoring wines, I have to mention Dave’s presentation which was also certainly “high scoring” and the very attractive apple wood smoked cheese which was also very popular
Looking ahead, Mike is going to explore the possibility of visiting the Wickham vineyard early in the new year and the next meeting will be held at Mike and Pam’s on Tuesday 22nd July 2pm
