Meeting 20th May 2008

Today’s meeting was held at Pat & Brian’s and as usual the choice of wine made for a very interesting tasting. Both wines turned out to be Shiraz but from different countries. Shiraz does appear to be a wine that the majority of the group enjoy, judging by the comments such as” Lots of fruit”, “Good bouquet”, “Robust”, “Good taste in the mouth” etc. and of course the high scores.

Most of us still struggle to accurately place the country of origin or indeed the type of grape but there are usually 1 or 2 correct guesses amongst us. It will be interesting to see whether our ability changes as we go forward.

Today’s wines were “Slinky “, a Shiraz from Argentina (£3.49) and Namaquoi, Elephant River Reserve, from South Africa (£4.10). Both are available from Morrison’s. One continuing trend - given average marks of 7.3 and 6.4 respectively, the cheaper of the 2 wines was the most popular.

The next meeting will be at Molly and Dave’ s on Wednesday June 18th, at 2pm.
