We tasted two very interesting wines at Ray and June’s at this months meeting, two similar tasting red wines but they were from very different geographical areas. Also again it was also demonstrated the good value that is available with both wines around the £5 mark. The first of the two was a 2007 JP Chenet, Vin de pay d’Oc, Merlot Cabernet although bought in France is also available from Morrisons. It presented a lovely deep ruby red colour with a strong fruity smell. It was a well balanced, medium wine, very easy to drink, again lots of fruit in the mouth but differing opinions as to the length from lingering to not great . Overall score given was 7.7

The second wine was from Australia - a 2006 McGuigan Black label. The wine can be purchased from -

at £6.99 a bottle or £5.59 each is 6 bottle are purchased. Again the wine was a bright ruby red in colour with a very clean fruity spring smell. Rather sweeter than the first wine it was a medium bodied smooth wine, lots of fruit in the taste and a long lingering taste. Overall score for this wine at 8.1 was equal to the previous highest scoring wine that we have tasted - a Fairtrade Argentine shiraz in June last year. As usual some excellent cheeses were on offer - and we finished off the afternoon with a very wide ranging conversation from Pawn shops to the economy!!

Next meeting is at John and Sheila’s 2pm on Tuesday June 2nd
