Meeting 25th Mar 2008

We had two birthdays to celebrate on the day of the meeting so the afternoon became a Cheese and Wine tasting. Wine for the meeting this month was chosen by Jack. It was a very good choice and kept most people guessing. We have decided that it is much more interesting to taste the wine without knowing anything about its provenance and very few of us on this occasion were able to guess it’s origin. The wine turned out to be two bottles from the Rhone valley. Both were blends of red wine - a Côte-du-Rhone and La Châsses du Pape at £6.50 and £6 respectively. It was interesting to see two wines from the same area taste so differently. The second of the two wines was preferred by all with an average score of 6.5 against 4.4 for the Côte-du-Rhone. The cheese was a popular addition - 3 English cheeses - Vintage Cheddar, Red Leicester and Double Gloucester with some French blue St Agur to add some variety. The St Agur proved to be very popular.
The next meeting is on April 22nd at John and Sheila’s
