Summer is now certainly over and since our last meeting in August, we have moved well and truly into Autumn. However with two excellent white wines to taste, Pat and Brian helped us to remember those balmy summer days,(well we did have a few of those this year), when you could sit out in the sun enjoying a cool glass of white wine
The first wine was a Sauvignon Blanc from southern France; a Vin de Pays d’Oc, La Baume, £4.99 from Morrisons. The group gave this a good score at an average of 7.5 and it received several comments in the vein of a well presented wine clear and pale with a clean crisp taste. Pleasurable, easy drinking and flavours of lemon, gooseberry etc.
The second wine was from Spain and was a Penrosa Sauvignon Blanc, also from Morrisons at £5.99. Average score from the group was slightly lower at 6.7 but was also very much enjoyed and received very similar comments to the first wine. As a group we still struggle to identify the wine and its origin but everyone seems to be keen to keep practising!! It is also interesting to see a fairly consistent trend that the cheaper wine receives a higher score from the group – no conclusions but goes against the general comments in the wine press. As usual we also enjoyed a good selection of cheese. The next meeting will be held at Jack's and is on the 25th November
Next year, we are hoping to organise a visit to the Wickham vineyard sometime in spring, for which we need a minimum of 15 people, so if anyone is interested please let me know. The costs for a tour of the vineyard and wine tasting is £7.50 per person, plus any transport costs
